Frederick Farmer, the owner of Nissitissit Apiaries in Pepperell, Massachusetts has been in the farming business all his life, the last eleven years tending his apiaries. Honey and honey straws make up most of his wares at the Westford Farmers Market but in the past he has produced dairy, honey, poultry, and other traditional products. Frederick says his old family-run farm is the tail end of a long tradition of farming in the region, but Frederick keeps it going strong. He says the best part about coming back to the Market is seeing the community return for more honey; an additional delight, he says, is when they come back to return the jars!
If only the weather were as cooperative as most of the customers, Frederick says. That is one of the biggest challenges for him, but he still loves coming to markets to sell his honey. He jokes that he is too old now to do anything else but we are grateful for his contributions nonetheless. Instead of buying retail honey at the store, why not come to the Market and buy some of Frederick’s local honey sourced within three miles of his Pepperell farm.
